building until the Lodge sadly closed in 1997

The early history of the Theosophical Society in North Wales mainly centres around the pioneering work done by Mrs Duckworth and Miss Chambres in lecturing and organizing, and who were mainly responsible for the formation of the first Centre in Colwyn Bay in 1917.

Mr Cecil Williams was appointed their first secretary, and with the willing help of Mr and Mrs J H Clegg, and Miss S Magee, they were soon able to apply for a Lodge Charter.

Colwyn Bay Lodge received its Charter from Adyar on March 1st 1919. Mr J H Clegg (president) Mr Cecil Williams (Secretary)

Other North Wales Lodges soon followed

Rhyl Lodge chartered on November 6th 1920. Mr John Williams ( President) Miss Arrowsmith (Secretary)

1923 European Theosophical Congress in Vienna

Miss Edwards was a founder member of the

St David’s Lodge, Bangor in 1921.

St David’s Lodge, Bangor chartered on January 21 1921. Mr William Aspden (President) Miss E Edwards (Secretary)

Llandudno Lodge chartered March 5th 1921. Mrs James (President) Mrs Merrick (Secretary)

Llandudno, Rhyl and the St David’s Bangor Lodges continued until 1939 but folded after the outbreak of World War II. Colwyn Bay Lodge continued until its closure in 1997 leaving the Adyar Theosophical Society without a presence in North Wales for several years.
